Graduated Intimacy Therapist Training: The EIS Model - A step-by-step experiential marital sex therapy intervention to help couples gradually increase verbal sexual intimacy. For couples, the sexual relationship can be full of pain, frustration, disappointment, and sadness. This intervention provides a roadmap for therapists who are guiding couples to a new experience of intimacy.

The EIS Model includes step-by-step instruction in the following areas:

1. The EIS Model (Empathy, Intimacy, mutual Sexual satisfaction) and it’s Research Base
2. Assessment: general intimacy, sexual history, medical complications/dysfunctions
3. Psychoeducation – Physiology of Sex, Arousal Differences, Orgasm
4. Family of Origin experiences and other Sociocultural influences on the sexual relationship (including the development of the Sexual Self-Schema)
5. Training in the Validation Protocol: A step-by-step process to build understanding and empathy, decrease conflict, and increase conflict resolution skills
6. Graduated Levels of Communication and Touch (10 level process)
    a.Graduated progression of Verbal and Sexual Intimacy skills: Verbal, Relationship, Touch, Physical, Sensual, Sexual
    b.Erogenous Zones: Levels 1, 2, 3
    c.Body Image, Prompt/Reflection exercises
    d.Verbalization: Preferences, Assertiveness, Change Requests, Continue/Stop (practicing refusal)
    e. Homework and In-Session Exercises for Each Level
